Profile and thoughts of Matthew Aker

I thought long and hard about how to write this section of the web site and realised if I wanted to get the message across to everyone that reads it I must write from my heart!

Like most guys, I got into dancing when I was 18 because I thought I would meet girls, (I'll tell you this now guys, there are lots of girls but you have to be able to do more than dance to win over their hearts.) I found that the more I learned, the less I knew and coming from a high sports background I was really confronted by the fact that I couldn't be the best at dancing right away.
But I persisted, and after five years of intensive training in the Arthur Murray teaching methods I discovered my true passion of teaching.

Once I started teaching I realized what dancing really meant to people.

One night I was standing on the side of the dance floor watching my student who had just performed a Waltz routine in front of the whole studio.  She  looked at me with tears in her eyes " Thank you, that's the first time in my life I have ever truly felt beautiful".

At that moment I didn't know what to say, but as time went on this was something that was happening to me every day; I have had couples tell me that dancing has made their relationship so much better because now they actually have something that they can do together and once a week spend an hour in each others arms.  It's even great when you get a simple thank you to let you know a dance lesson was the highlight of that persons week.

Originally I started teaching in my hometown of Calgary, Canada and then made the move to sunny Australia.  This chain of events made me set my goal of owning a studio; I figured that there would be nothing more gratifying than knowing that I had created an environment for even more people to share my love of what dancing has to offer.

Every step from that point has led me to the moment of launching the Castle Hill studio but out of everything I have accomplished in this industry what matters to me most, are the words that students have shared with me.

My door and this studio are always open for students because without you who knows where I would be.

Yours Truly
